We have an experienced and dedicated team of teachers who are all native speakers. We also have a small administration team and our office is open Monday-Friday from 9-12.

Ida Imbach, School Director

Ida was born and grew up in the Philippines and has Swiss, Spanish and Italian roots. She lived and worked in Manila until moving to Switzerland in 1984. After working for a few years, she got married, had a daughter and was a stay at home mom. Ida did some private tutoring and worked as a therapist for an autistic child until she accepted a teaching job at the WAC in 2002. Ida has taught Preschool, Fun with English (ESL) and Reading & Writing Classes and became our School Director in 2008.

Carol Conzelmann, Club Office Manager / Teacher Reading & Writing

Carol is from Shropshire in the UK and studied and worked in Oxford, Cambridge and London.  She lived in Singapore, Hong Kong and Dubai for 10 years, where she worked as a Fashion Buyer/Merchandise Manager.  She met her Swiss husband Stefan in Hong Kong and they moved to Uster in 2008, where she was very happy to find a new home at the WAC.  She now lives in Wermatswil with Stefan, their children Matti and Lia, plus cat brothers Nero and Pharaoh.  Carol volunteered at the WAC for several years and served as President from 2011-2013.  In 2014, she re-trained as an English Teacher. She has been our Club Office Manager since 2014 and now teaches Reading & Writing levels 1 and 2.  Carol loves holidays, hiking, reading and cooking Asian food.

Stephanie Flury, Bookkeeper

Stephanie has been part of the WAC team since 2011. She is originally from the US and studied there. Stephanie has taught children of various ages in both the States and Switzerland. Stephanie taught English as a Second Language at the WAC for several years and now uses her business skills as WAC Bookkeeper. Stephanie has one daughter and in her spare time, enjoys art, baking, reading and taking walks in beautiful Switzerland.

Yvonne Bernet, Teacher Reading & Writing

Yvonne studied in Aberdeen, Scotland and taught music in secondary and special needs schools in Glasgow and Edinburgh. She moved to Switzerland in 2000 with her Swiss husband, Roland. She has two children - Fabienne and Andre, and two guinea pigs - Lucy and Isla. Yvonne has been teaching various classes at the WAC since 2001 and her children have attended (and still enjoy) the WAC. Yvonne is a regular at the Monday evening Pilates classes. She enjoys skiing, cycling, hill walking, reading, playing the piano and spending time with friends and family. Yvonne feels it is the WAC that has played the biggest role in helping her to settle in Switzerland, providing her with part-time employment whilst raising a family and of course the opportunity to socialize and develop friendships.


Caryn Leudhardt, Teacher Reading & Writing / Explorers

Caryn comes from Durban, South Africa and she moved to Zurich in January 2009. She has two daughters who were 10 and 8 years old when they first arrived in Switzerland, and they have both successfully gone through the Swiss school system. Caryn has been teaching for over 20 years and in South Africa, she taught at high school and tertiary level. She joined the WAC teaching team in 2010 as a Reading & Writing teacher and added Explorers in 2011. She developed the higher levels of our Reading and Writing program to include preparation for the Cambridge PET, First and Advanced Certificates. She also teaches native English speakers at the Secondary Schools in Uster. She feels very fortunate to be able to say that she loves her job.


Sharon Billing, Teacher Preschool / Explorers / Lunch Club

Sharon is from the UK and moved to Switzerland 18 years ago and lives in Hittnau with her husband. In 2002 she started working as an assistant teacher at Rainbow School and after 2 years of training, started taking her own classes. After the school closed she continued teaching the children at the parent’s request and also welcomed new children. She was approached by the WAC to set up the Lunch Club in 2007 and has extended her role over the years to include Preschool and Explorers classes. Sharon likes to travel and her main hobbies are walking, cooking and making her own jewelry.


Kate Eibeck, Teacher ESL / Discovering English

Originally from the sunny south coast of England, Kate is a UK-qualified translator and English Language Teacher. She lived and worked in the UK, Spain and Germany before settling in Switzerland with her husband Michael. Their three sons, Tobias, Nicolai and Sam, are all WAC veterans and the family have been WAC members for twenty years! Kate has taught English at all levels and to all age groups and is passionate about the English language. Other hobbies include travel, coastal walks, Pilates and reading. Kate loves teaching ESL at the WAC and strongly believes that the key to success in a language is motivation and therefore strives to create a positive learning environment for her students at all times.


Heather Nägeli, Teacher Preschool / ESL

Heather is a native English speaker and studied in the US. She married a Swiss man and has lived in Switzerland since 1996. She has two children, aged 15 and 11. Heather has been working with and teaching children in various capacities for more than thirty years. For the last ten years she has enjoyed teaching at the WAC. She says that being a teacher brings her much joy, and it is the best job ever! When she has time, Heather enjoys cooking, painting and she loves to travel.


Sue Mailley-Smith, Teacher Preschool

Sue is originally from Devon in England and trained as a Primary School Teacher at Warwick University. She moved to Switzerland with her husband Wez in 2009. Since then, they have had three children, Isobel, Zack and Beatrix, who are all now in the local Swiss school system. Sue has been a member of the WAC since 2010 when she was so happy to discover the Playgroups! She volunteered on the Board from 2012 to 2014 as Membership Secretary and President and started work in the Preschool in 2015. Sue loves skiing and hiking, as well as all sorts of craft, such as knitting and sewing, and is trying her best to learn German!


Sangeeta Khandelwal, Assistant Teacher

Sangeeta is originally from Jaipur in India and she lives in Erlenbach. She has been a member of our teaching team at the WAC for over 10 years and regularly assists preschool lessons.


Barbara Eggenberger, Spielgruppe Leader

Barbara comes from Sevelen St Gallen and has two sisters. After completing her commercial apprenticeship and high school diploma, she was employed in various office jobs, working part time when her children were small. She completed her training to become a Spielgruppe Leader in Uster and is currently doing a further education on early language intervention with Spielgruppe PLUS. She lives with her husband and their three sons, a cat and a garden in Grünigen. Barbara’s passion is working and playing with children in pre-Kindergarten age and she joined the WAC team in August 2019. Her hobbies are cooking, swimming, movies and spending time with her family and friends.


Diana Schwarzer, DAZ Teacher

Diana is from North Germany and studied Marketing in Düsseldorf. She studied languages in San Francisco and moved to Münich with her husband to work as a Management Assistant in 1999. Their two sons were born there and in 2008 she moved to Switzerland, where she attended playgroups at the WAC with her youngest son. She was active in the Swiss Parent Teacher Association and since 2012 she has been working part time in Event Management. In 2016 she qualified as a Spielgruppe Leader and joined the WAC team in August 2019 as DAZ teacher, where she enjoys teaching children German in a playful way. Diana loves music, sings in a gospel choir and enjoys Pilates and playing the ukulele.


Marisa Rapisarda, Swiss German Playgroup Assistant

Marisa lives in Uster with her family. She has a brother, who also lives in Uster. Her parents are from Italy and have lived in Uster for over 50 years. Marisa has 2 children, Mattia who is 11 and Ilaria who is 14, and they also have a cat called Max. Marisa completed a commercial apprenticeship and since the birth of her children, has worked part time as a Secretary at the Botanical Garden in Grünigen. She started working at the WAC in 2016 as Playgroup Assistant. She loves children and enjoys working with them. Her hobbies are reading, dancing and swimming.
